DIVERSITY PUSH: OSCARS INVITE 928 NEW MEMBERS INCLUDING JADA PINKETT SMITH, OLIVIA MUNN, TIFFANY HADDISH, EMILIA CLARKE AND KENDRICK LAMAR!

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is taking it’s pledge to diversify the membership seriously, increasing this year’s class to nearly 40% people of color and 49% female.

The diversity push began following the #OscarsSoWhite controversy in 2014/2015 when none of the top 20 acting nominations included people of color, causing a huge backlash.

Among the 928 people invited to join the prestigious organization this year are Dave Chappelle, Tiffany Haddish, Mindy Kaling, Jada Pinkett Smith, David Kaluuya, Kendrick Lamar, Olivia Munn, Emilia Clarke, Daisy Ridley and J.K. Rowling.

Also invited were Evan Rachel Wood, Taye Diggs, Amy Schumer, Timothée Chalamet, Kumail Nanjiani, Sofia Boutella, Hannibal Buress, Danai Gurira, Ken Jeong and Gina Rodriguez.

The Academy’s goal is to double the number of minorities and women members by 2020, and by the looks of things, they are well on their way.
