CANNES 2018: CATE BLANCHETT MAKES POWERFUL PROTEST STATEMENT AT ‘GIRLS OF THE SUN’ PREMIERE!

Cate Blanchett was a classic beauty in Armani, leading the way down the red carpet at the premiere of Girls Of The Sun (Les Filles Du Soleil) during the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival, held at Palais des Festivals on May 12, 2018 in Cannes, France.

There was a dramatic moment on the steps of the red carpet as Jury President Cate Blanchett read a statement in protest of the lack of female filmmakers recognized throughout the history of the festival. Only 82 films in competition in Cannes’ official selection have been directed by women since the festival began, as opposed to the 1,645 films in the last 71 years that have been directed by men. In the era of the Time’s Up movement, where equality is a big issue, it was powerful to see women standing in solidarity for change.

Also lighting up the red carpet were Kendall Jenner in Schiaparelli, Joan Smalls in Roberto Cavalli, Sara Sampaio in Zuhair Murad, Amber Heard in Giambattista Valli, Elsa Hosk in Alberta Ferretti and Aishwarya Rai in Michael Cinco.
