CASEY AFFLECK WITHDRAWS FROM PRESENTING BEST ACTRESS AWARD AT 2018 OSCARS!

Casey Affleck has reportedly withdrawn his name from presenting at the 2018 Academy Awards, taking place on March 4 in Los Angeles. The winner of last year’s Best Actor award for his lead turn in Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester By The Sea, Affleck was set to follow tradition and present the Best Actress award at this year’s ceremony.

However, in light of the #MeToo movement, Deadline reports that Affleck pulled out of the show because he did not want to be a source of distraction from the deserving nominees.

What would make him a distraction?

Affleck was accused of sexual harassment by two women he worked with on 2010’s I’m Still Here, starring Joaquin Phoenix, which he directed. While not admitting wrongdoing, Affleck settled the cases for undisclosed sums, with the women signing non-disclosure agreements as requirements of the financial settlements.

Brie Larson, who presented Affleck with his Best Actor Oscar, famously refused to applaud him after he accepted the award. Post-Harvey Weinstein scandal and amidst the #MeToo movement, more scrutiny is being given not only to Hollywood, but other industries as well, with women standing up and saying, “Enough is enough.”
