TIME STANDS STILL AS ‘CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM’ RETURNS FOR SEASON 9!

Seinfeld, the show that made Larry David famous, was about nothing…and it can be argued that Curb Your Enthusiasm is also about…nothing. In a good way…

After a six year hiatus, Curb is back for a ninth season and you could be forgiven for thinking it never left, because it is as if time stood still.

David continues to be the put-upon curmudgeon he has always been, finding endless frustrations in the mundanities of everyday life. Yes, we are living in the Trump era, with the political divide as wide as ever, but cracking open a faulty bottle of shampoo is still David’s primary concern as we see in the first scene of the Season 9 opener.

He is us, you see – griping about inconsiderate drivers, resenting the forced niceties at boring finger-food parties – albeit heightened for effect. The comedy comes in David digging himself further into hole after hole, in futile and exasperating attempts to right whatever the situation at hand is. So, he’s not saving the world, but dammit, he’s going to get the respect he deserves…except he rarely does.

The David formula still works six years on, whether he is shopping a controversial play around town or going toe to toe with permanent house guest Leon (J.B. Smoove). There’s something oddly comforting about having David back, up to his old tricks – a nostalgic feeling in the era of the TV reboot.
