Last night’s The Bachelorette finale saw Rachel Lindsay finally get her man and her fairytale ending.

Rachel, the first ever African-American Bachelorette, chose chiropractor Bryan Abasolo, who proposed with an eye-popping diamond ring. But the road to engagement was a tricky one.

Watching the final dates and the run-up to the final rose, it was clear that second-place contestant Peter Kraus stole Rachel’s heart. Their chemistry was undeniable, however, Peter’s unwillingness to commit to proposing to Rachel sealed his fate.

On their final date, Rachel made it clear that she didn’t sacrifice and go through all she had to simply get a boyfriend out of the experience. She wanted a fiance. She expected a proposal. But Peter stood firm, being frank about the fact that he wasn’t sure a proposal would be possible in such a short period of time, but that he wanted their relationship to continue. This proved a deal-breaker for Rachel who made it clear she wanted marriage and a family.

The chemistry between Rachel and Bryan was less palpable and on their final date, her heart did not seem to be fully in it. Peter was obviously on her mind which Rachel admitted when speaking live to Chris Harrison, the show’s host.

There were awkward moments – one can only imagine how Bryan was feeling watching Rachel and Peter’s scenes. Despite her professions of love for Bryan and her expressed excitement about planning their wedding, it felt like she settled for him.

We’ll have to wait and see if they make it down the aisle!
